[0001] The present invention relates to a belt section in accordance with the preamble to the accompanying independent patent claim 1 , which is adapted to be connected to a plurality of similar belt sections to form a flexible belt belt for mounting around the periphery vehicle tires. The present invention also relates to a method for producing a support member for such a belt section.
[0002] Track belts can be removably mounted around vehicle tires are known in several different designs. Such a conveyor belt can be used in order to obtain better friction and traction between vehicle tires and the ground for a vehicle, particularly on wet, slippery or muddy terrain, or in order to increase the carrying capacity (loading) of a vehicle.
[0003] A treadmill section in accordance with the preamble to the accompanying independent patent claim 1 is previously known from international patent application number WO 99/37525 A1. OBJECTIVE OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
[0004] The aim of the present invention is to provide a treadmill section of the aforementioned type having a new and favorable design. SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
[0005] In accordance with the present invention, said object of the present invention is achieved by a conveyor section having the characteristics defined in the accompanying independent patent claim .
[0006] The mat section in accordance with the present invention comprises a cross member and two lateral support members mounted to the cross member at opposite ends of the same, the support members projecting on the same side of the cross member and being spaced apart to enable that a tire will be received between the support members with the cross member extending through the tire wrapping surface and with the support members facing a respective of one of the two opposite sidewalls of the tire. Each support member has a first side facing the external support member and an opposite second side facing outwards from the other support member, a support surface being provided on said first side of the respective support member to engage with the outer surface of a tire received between the support members. At least one of the support members, preferably both of them, has an inner rod part, through which the support member is connected to the crossbar member, and an outer head part, which is connected to the rod part and which is wider than the shank portion as seen in a direction corresponding to the longitudinal direction of the belt. The support surface of said at least one support member protrudes laterally in opposite directions in the part of the support member where the stem part meets the head part, so as to form a section of support surface on the head part which is wider than an adjacent support surface section over the stem part as seen in that direction.
[0007] Due to the fact that the head part is wider than the stem part, an enlarged support surface section can be provided on the head part without increasing the width of the inner part of the support member through which the member support bracket is connected to the crossbar member. An increased width of said internal part of the support member should determine an increased width of the belt section and, through this, a greater distance between the crossbar members of the belt formed by several interconnected belt sections, which could in turn reduce the efficiency of the belt. With the solution in accordance with the present invention, the support member can be given an increased support surface area without increasing the width of the mat section and without increasing the height of the support member. An increased support surface area will determine an increased contact surface area between the support member and the tire and, thereby, reduced surface pressure on the tire from the support member, which in turn will will reduce wear on the tire caused by the support member.
[0008] In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, said at least one transport member is formed by deep extraction of a blank of steel blade having a thickness of 6 mm - 12 mm, preferably 7 mm - 9 mm . Thereby, the support member can be produced in a fast, simple and cost efficient manner.
[0009] Additional advantages as well as advantageous characteristics of the belt section in accordance with the present invention will become apparent from the following description and the accompanying dependent patent claims .
[0010] The present invention also relates to a method for producing a support member for a belt section, in which a blank of steel blade having a thickness of 6 mm - 12 mm, preferably 7 mm - 9 mm, it is subjected to deep extraction in order to form the support member.
[0011] With the method in accordance with the present invention, the support members can be produced in a fast, simple and cost-efficient manner.
[0012] In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the blank is heated before and / or during deep extraction to a temperature of 900 ° C - 1,200 ° C. Through this, the deep extraction of the blank is facilitated.
[0013] Additional advantages as well as advantageous features of the method in accordance with the present invention will become apparent from the following description and the accompanying dependent patent claims . BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

[0015] The Drawings of the Figures are only schematic / diagrammatic representations and the present invention is not limited to the embodiments represented therein. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
[0016] A mat section (10) in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention is illustrated in Figures 1 - 3. This mat section (10) is to be connected to a plurality of similar mat sections to form a flexible mat belt ( 1) (see Figure 8 ) for mounting around the outer periphery of vehicle tires. The mat section (10) comprises an elongated cross member (11) and two lateral support members (12) mounted to the cross member (11) at opposite ends thereof.
[0017] The cross member (11) has an essentially smooth (polished) interior (13) for engaging with the wrapping surface (2) of a vehicle tire (3). In order to optimize the grip against the ground, one or more grip pins (14) can be provided on the outside of the cross member (11) , as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2. In the illustrated embodiment of the present invention , the crossbar member (11) is formed by an elongated rigid beam having a cross-sectional configuration essentially configured in (T). However, the cross member (11) can have any other suitable design.
[0018] The support members (12) protrude over the interior (13) of the cross member (11). The support members (12) are spaced apart to enable a tire (3) to be received between the support members (12) with the cross member (11) extending across the wrapping surface (2) of the tire (3) and with the support members (12) facing one of one of the two opposite side walls (4) of the tire, as shown in Figure 2, where the bottom of a tire (3) is illustrated in dashed lines. Each support member (12) has a first side (15) facing the other support member and an opposite second side (16) facing outwards from the other support member. A support surface (17) is provided on said first side (15) of the respective support member for engagement with the outer surface of a tire (3) received between the support members (12).
[0019] The design of the support members (12) is shown in closer detail in Figures 4 - 7. The respective support member (12) has an internal stem part (18), through which the support member (12) is connected to the crossbar member (11) , and an outer head part (19) , which is connected to the stem part (18) and which is wider than the stem part as seen in one direction (D1 ) corresponding to the longitudinal direction of the belt (1) to be formed by a number of interconnected belt sections (10), that is, the intended running (running) direction of the belt. This direction (D1) is indicated by an arrow in Figure 4 and Figure 6. The support surface (17) of the support member protrudes laterally in opposite directions on the part (20) of the support member where the stem part ( 18) meets the head part (19) in such a way as to form a section of support surface (17a) over the head part (19) which is wider than an adjacent support surface section (17b) on stem part (18) as seen in said direction (D1).
[0020] The rod part (18) of the respective support member (12) has a cross section configuration configured in (U) . The open side (21) of the stem part (18) faces outwardly from the other support member, while the opposite closed side (22) faces the other support member. The rod part (18) has two essentially parallel side walls (23, 24) extending at a distance from each other and an intermediate wall (25) extending between the side walls on said closed side (22) of the part rod (18). The previously mentioned narrow support surface section (17b) is provided on the intermediate wall (25).
[0021] The head part (19) of the respective support member (12) is configured in a hood with an open side (26) facing outward from the other support member and an opposite closed side (27) facing the other support member. The previously mentioned wider support surface section (17a) is provided on its closed side (27).
[0022] The respective support member (12) can be said to be configured in a shell and has a rim (28) formed by the essentially straight edge (28a) of the first side wall (23) of the stem part, the edge configured in an arc (28b) of the head part (19) and the essentially straight edge (28c) of the second side wall (23) of the stem part.
[0023] The support surface (17) of the respective support member (12) is angled outwardly from the other support member as seen in the direction from the inner end of the support surface towards the outer end thereof, as illustrated in Figure 2 and Figure 7.
[0024] In the illustrated example, the respective support member (12) is secured to one end of the cross member (11) via a connecting member configured in (C) (29), a so-called connecting hook, which is secured for the crossbar member (11) by welding. The stem part (18) of the support member (12) rests against a base part (30) of the connecting member (29) through the inner edges of the side walls (23, 24) and is held to this base part (30) by welding. A first end (31) of the connecting member (29) is held to a first side wall (23) of the stem part (18) by welding and the other end (32) of the connecting member (29) is held to the another side wall (24) of the stem part (18) by welding. Thereby, a first opening (33) for receiving a first connecting element (35) is formed on a first side of the support member (12) between the first side wall (23) of the stem part (18) and the connecting member (29) and a second opening (33) for receiving a second connecting element (35) is formed on the opposite side of the support member (12) between the other side wall (24) of the stem part (18) and the connecting member (29).
[0025] Several belt sections (10) of the type previously described are interconnected by means of connection elements (35) to form a flexible belt belt (1), as shown in Figure 8. The respective connection element (35) is received in an opening (33) of a connecting member (29) of a first track section (10) and an opening (33) of a connecting member (29) of another adjacent track section (10) . The connecting elements (35) will act as hinges (joints) between the belt sections (10). The track section (1) is mounted around the outer periphery of two or more vehicle tires (3) with the crossbar members (11) extending in the cross direction of the tires and with the support members (12) turning to the tires, as shown in Figure 8. The support members (12) will keep the belt belt (1) correctly positioned on the tires (3) and will prevent the belt belt (1) from sliding (slip) of the tires (3). In the part of a tire (3) that rests against the ground, the opposite side walls (4) of the tire (3) will arch (stand out) due to the fact of the load from the vehicle and the side walls (4 ) will consequently come into contact with the support surfaces (17) of the two opposite support members (12) of a track section (10) received between the tire (3) and the ground, as illustrated in Figure 2.
[0026] The respective support member (12) is formed by deep extraction of a blank (40) of steel blade. The blank (40) is formed by being cut from a steel blade having a thickness of 6 mm - 12 mm, preferably 7 mm - 9 mm. The blank (40) is heated before and / or during deep extraction to a temperature of 900 ° C - 1,200 ° C.
[0027] Different steps in a deep extraction process for forming a support member (12) of the type previously described are illustrated in Figures 9a - 9d. In a first step, a blank (blank) (40) having a thickness of 8 mm and heated to a temperature of approximately 950 ° C is placed on the top end of a punch (41) with the edges of the blank resting against a lower die (42), as shown in Figure 9a. A holding member (43) is pressed against the top surface of the blank (40) in order to hold the blank in place over the punch (41). After that, an upper matrix (44) is pressed against the edges of the blank (40) and against the lower matrix (42) (see Figure 9b) in order to configure the edges of the blank and give these edges a slightly different configuration. rounded. The lower die (42) is then lowered and moved outwardly from the upper die, as shown in Figure 9c, after which the upper die (44) is moved downwardly relative to the punch (41) in order to submit the blank (40) for deep extraction for the final configuration of a support member (12) having the project described previously. Thereafter, the upper die (44) and the holding member (43) are moved upwardly outwardly from the support member (12) and the punch (41), and the lower die (42) is moved upwardly relative to for the punch (41) in order to push the support member (12) upwards and as a consequence, release the support member (12) from the punch (41), as illustrated in Figure 9d. The support member (12) is finally cooled by being immersed in water or any other suitable cooling medium.
[0028] The present invention is of course not considered in any way to be restricted to the embodiments described above. On the contrary, it should be noted by those skilled in the art that many additional modifications and variations of the present invention are conceivable without departing from the fundamental idea of this invention as defined within the scope of protection of patent claims thereafter.
